I've been asked to install an earth electrode.

Do I need to check for pipes underneath where I propose to put the earth rod?

Do I need to perform a CAT scan? I'm not entirely sure what a CAT scan is but if anyone is familiar with it, all information and advice is welcomed.

CAT= Cable Avoidance Tool can also be used for locating services underground Iv used them on st lighting bit like the fuse finder Use=Experience and knowlage thay can give faulse results and should always be hand dug if suspissious

Did a CU change recently where there was an existing rod to be reused.....right in line with the service cable coming in:eek:.......it was only banged in 2/3 of the way, presumably the original installer bottled out of going all the way in.As we got a good reading we left well alone, mind you if it had just nicked the neutral we would have got a really good reading and could have called it PME.:p
