I have an interview coming up for an electricians mates position at a fairly large institution.

Iv been pre warned that there will be some technical questions during the interview. Im pretty sure it will be basic stuff based around safe isolation, general Electrical safety, using tools etc etc.

However I was wondering If anyone here can share some technical questions they have been asked or maybe some advice on what style questions may be put forward?

Also maybe some general interview advice as its been nearly 15 years since I last had an interview.

update:

interview went well. There was quite a few simple technical questions (explain an AC waveform, why is the earth pin on a plug longer and thicker, how many volts in a 1volt battery, how does a flourescent tube work)

Can you guess which one I couldn't answer?

I must have impressed enough because I got a phone call later in the day and was offered the job :-)

Good luck with the job and well done with impressing the interviewers, it is harder than it sounds.
After all it is difficult to count the number of volts in a 1 volt battery!

I hope all goes well for you.

Congrats :)

Was mean for to be "how many volts in a 12v battery"

And that was the question I couldn't answer! Ha I totally over thought it and said I couldn't answer it ha.

I sat in the car afterwards and laughed at myself

Well done & congrats

Well you have answered that its not as simple as that. Volts aren't objects like buttons. Its a potential difference a measure of the potential capacity for electrons to move from one pole of the battery to the other. So the volts aren't strictly in the battery but a measure of its capability. Much like an engine doesn't have horse power in it but it does have the ability to create it.
