Hi Everyone,

Sorry if this is a silly question. I am supporting my mum with some small home renovations, in preparation for a care home. I am trying to do what I can myself to help her with costs.

Can I ask if cables that have been run around the ceiling of a kitchen within dated trunking, is something that I might be able to renew. The trunking needs replacing as it was just glued to the wall, I thought to maybe turn off the electrics on a sunny day and renew all of the trunking.

Or is this something you would suggest an electrician should do please?

Many thanks,
Vanessa

some pictures would help but as long as you can replace the trunking without disconnecting and wires then strictly speaking it is not an electrical job and would not require an electrician or any certification.
however, electricians are normally pretty good at installing trunking and may make a better or quicker job than you can do yourself.
p.s. I never rely on the self adhesive type of trunking, always add some screws so it wont fall down.

also, the latest regs will require you to install a support system that will not fail prematurely in the event of a fire (normally some metal clips screwed to the wall)

Hi @James,

Thank you so much. I will take some photos tomorrow and post them.

I wondered the same thing, I also wondered if the aluminium trunking might be better. Might I ask if you have a preference for trunking please?

Thanks,
Vanessa

trunking of any kind really depends on where it is going and how it will look.
