Light fitting crackling

Hi,
I am a basic DIYer but I think switching wires over is not too difficult a task!
My question is that I changed a pendant light rose - the copper wire is the stranded version. When the wire came out of the connection a little crimp type thing to keep the strands together came off. I reconnected the wire to the light without the crimp but now the light is crackling. Any advice on now to keep the strands together to ensure a strong connection?

Twist the wires with a pair of pliers

Thanks, yes I tried that but frays when I push back into the connection - also wanted to check that it was safe to do this put back in without the crimp bit!

That'how it was done before crimps were around,

It may not be that particular cable that is crackling. The bulb itself may make a noise.... normal bayonet connection? Check with another bulb

If the wire 'frays' when you try to insert it in the terminal you either haven't twisted the cores tightly enough or the terminal screw needs backing out a bit more - or both.

It needs terminating correctly. If you're unable to do so, get someone capable.
Any arcing is a serious fire hazard and it could end up biting back.
Just think what might happen if it's arcing away during the night.
