Hi
i'm going to test some lightning protection tomorrow following on from some extra tape we installed. Im competant with testing the electrodes with the fall of potential method etc.
what im unsure about is the continuity testing, there are 15 down conductors, and i read on here that, using a fly lead to test between them is the method, with acceptable readings not exceeding 0.3 ohms.

can someone explain the exact method. do i test between every down conductor, because that would mean over 100 tests.

thanks

It's a little bit more involved than that. Every joint/junction in the air network installation needs to be tested across, normally with a Ductor tester with at least a 10A current flowing into the resistance (0.1 ohm). Any test points in the down conductors need testing too, after reconnection, following the earth rod test on that down conductor.

A typical so-called low resitance ohm meter, that you find on MFT's and the like, is not suitable for carrying out any of these tests...
