Hello,
Yet to dip my toe in EV and have been trying to avoid it to be honest. But have just been presented with a situation and just wanted to get thoughts from others, if possible please, before proceeding. which might even be suggesting they get someone else ??
A client of mine has 2015 Mitsubishi outlander which she has been plugging in through her kitchen window and into a standard 13amp socket for a few years, she tells me. Also a quick scan of the Mitsubishi owners forums suggests this and similar (any old 13 amp socket is game apparently) is common practice. She is moving house and the distance from the house to car will be too far for the lead. Therefore, she'd like an exterior socket for it. So I've just had a look through section 722.
The new house is PME and with 722.411.4.1 I don't think I can satisfy (i), (ii) or (iii) with a 13 amp socket so that means an electrode.
I have no idea if there's a potential DC fault current of >6mA and can't find anything relating to this from Mitsubishi. So, guess that means a type B RCD then.
Hard to imagine that all of the existing 13amp plug in jobs into any random socket are going to meet 722.
With these requirements is it better just to scrap the 13amp plug idea and recommend a proper wall charger given the cost/hassle of a dedicated circuit, electrode, type B RCDs etc?
