Hi! and hello my first post! I have been asked to carry out a mixed bag of work on a large caravan site, with regard to the periodic inspections my understanding is that the reccomended inspection period is 3 years forcaravans (static not touring)l with a new periodic to be completed after a new installation or or re site can anyone confirm or correct this understanding?? thanks

Caravans and caravan parks are covered under section 708 of BS7671, The recomendations regarding frequency of testing is explained in chapter 5 Inspecting Testing and Verification ( but in a nut shell it's determined by the current state of the installation - i.e. Engineering Judgement.)

welcome to the forum. just out of curiosity how much are you charging per van ? been asked to do some later in the year and have no idea what to charge.

Hi,

I Have a lot of these to do in my area as the park owners picked up on the "If used frequently then every 12 months " part in the regs. Small percentage of owners have decided they know best and they never have their houses tested so why test a caravan.Have tried explaining the difference between bricks and mortar and an alluminium box in a field but to no avail.Always find more problems in ones that have porches and the like as they usually did the wiring themselves. Zs readings are sometimes way over as the source of the installation is sometimes 200 yards away.Remember if the home is let out it must have pir and pat test every year.As to your point about new ones, they are all tested when they leave the factory But when arrive there is no certificate and have been shaken around a lot with the obvious results. Also when the heating engineer has finished repairing the faults and leaks ask him how old the boiler is and you will maybe find its a year old at least already.
Hope this of use.
