Hi everyone, i might be having to run new meter tails from meter box to consumer unit which is just under 3m run, i have used 25mm 3 core before and its hard to work with especially through joists. I was thinking about 2 core 25mm swa and a seperate 16mm earth to make life easier but then came to the problem of having to run all 3 cores through the same hole due to eddy currents when terminating, does anyone have any ideas on this or is it not possible? Thanks for reading

What is the run? I often just use some trunking and run the tails and earth in the trunking..

Since around the 17th Edition (or one of the amendments to it) it has been allowable for the protective conductor to be run alongside the SWA and through a separate entry in the ferromagnetic enclosure (a derogation from the general Regulation).

My greater concern would be how you intend to gland the SWA in a Permali Box however.

I might be missing something here, if you gland an SWA into a metal enclosure how would run the protective conductor through the SWA gland so it was through the same hole

Two immediate thoughts here: 1) What's your rationale for needing to use SWA on such a short run and 2) Does it actually need to be 25mm when 16mm will probably more than suffice? I.E...... are you making life hard for yourself here by not just using standard singles?

You can't, but a separate cpc was often run despite not being permitted. So JPEL/64 decided to expressly allow this for SWA - but it remains disallowable in all other circumstances.
