Just after a bit of knowledge to satisfy my own curiosity - hope this is allowed within forum rules
I’ve just had a new kitchen installed and the electrician came today to connect two single ovens. They are each connected to their own MCB on different sides of the CU.
One of the ovens works fine, however one trips both RCDs when turning it on.
Having done a bit of Googling, it seems this can sometimes be caused by one of the neutrals being connected to the wrong busbar.
I understand why this would cause both RCDs to trip when the oven is turned on - one RCD would have x amps on the live coil and x+y amps on the neutral. The other RCD would have x amps on the live and x-y on the neutral, hence both RCDs are imbalanced.
What I’m struggling to understand is why the RCD on one half of the board can’t be reset without the other one first being reset.
Like I said, electrician is coming back in the morning so I’m not looking to fix anything myself, just curious.
