Has anyone else heard about the changes for Part P registration that are coming in as of the 1st of Jan next year?

Apparently they are going to require that anyone trying to register for full scope under a Part P scheme has a minimum of NVQ lvl 3 or equivelent

What do you guys think, good idea? Or do you think it will stop people retraining as sparks once they get out of a certain age bracket (16-24 or apprenticeship age) and do you think this constitutes age discrimination?

what are your views chaps?

Dave

its not going to happen the scam providers will lose too much membership money, although its the best idea ive had so far

Hopefully the people in power will realise that electrcians should be used to do electrical job and not some who one who can do dot to dot colours

the best change they could do is scrap the thing

Agree with you on this one,for me you should just need a card,no card no work, surely this would be a better idea. Its probably one of the worst things ive ever known to have to pay someone to have to work!!!!!

Whats is Part P ???????

it's a scam that makes a JIB approved electrician who holds the qualification C+G 2391, who carries £2 million PL insurance and has his (or her own) calibrated test equipment, not qualified to rewire his own house.

It don't really ........................does it?

they are bringing in the changes but they are also bringing in a new domestic only NVQ lv3 to cover there backsides and greed so the private training providers are going nowhere by the looks of it

Agree with the man above. So you will have yet another qualification to confuse things, and I'll be very surprised if the qualification holds any weight.

I spoke to an old friend this weekend who manages large apartment blocks. He told me that his firm wouldn't even let me work on car park lighting or the building plantrooms ect unless I was part p. This is crap in my eyes. He could get an inexperienced bloke in who is part p, but never worked on 3ph. He would get the job over me. Hows that right?

Its not right John you know that its complete bolloxs

The problem is the "Manager" doesn't know the extent or level of skill that an electrician has and doesn't know the scope of works outlined in Part P.

Unfortunately the way Part P is weighted, it assumes that the level of skill and knowledge of carrying out works in s domestic setting is greater than the level and skill needed to work in commercial/industrial setting.

I think everyone here will agree that this is not the case, infact quite the opposite

Its down to the understanding of the Part P qualification. when it came out electricians themselves use it as a lever to indicate that Joe Public should use an Part P qualified person and to some extent still do.

Part P is just a qualification and should beseen as such

Anybody could do wiring but now that domestic wiring comes under the building inspector it how you deal with him that counts
