I'm having a career change and want to be a sparks, but going down the domestic installer route first, doing a few courses alongside my current job. Plan is to go part time with the current work and find an electrician to work for during my time off.

In the meantime, I'm going to sign up for a course with Able Skills in Dartford.

I'm going to do their introductory course to refresh my memory and try to lose some of my bad DIY habits. After that I'm going to do their Part P course, before the 2382 etc.

Just wondering what the Part P course alone will actually enable me to do. I know it allows people to do notifiable work without informing Building Control, but on it's own, without the 2382, does it actually let you do electrical work?

Don't worry folks, I'm not planning on going into business without all the qualifications and some experience, I'm just curious!

the part P course you speak about does NOT let you do notifiable work at all... this is a general misconception of what Part P actually is...!

plus there is NO such thing as a Part P course as Part P is a building regulation that refers to electrical installations in domestic dwellings.

and before you even pick up a screwdriver to think about doing electrical you will need 17th edition qualification, insurance, full set of test equipment and the ability to know what your doing...! also if you wish to do notifiable work you will need to either A) join a Part P scheme Provider for the sum of money equating to a nice holiday for you and your lass or B) pay LABC to sign your work off for a similar sum of money equating to a weekend away!

i dont want to rain on your parade mate but there is an awful lot of investigation needed on your side as to what you need and require...!
