Hi,

please note this is a copy of another thread I made in the wrong forum (mods notified).

Hi, I've just bought a new house in need of some upgrading. I was thinking of getting one of these done so that if any electrical work was required that could be done first.

I'm in Glasgow and have seen various prices mentioned for this. What would be a fair price for this to be done on a 2 bedroom semi detached house?

I also wondered, if any changes are suggested, does it become a legal obligation to carry the work out?

And final question - is it safe to assume that someone carrying out eicr would give an honest report and not use it as an opportunity to create unneeded work for themselves? Sorry if that question seems disrespectful it isn't intended to be. But the are people to watch out for in most lines of work (mine included)!

If anyone had a moment to answer these questions I'd really appreciate it. Of if anyone in the area who is qualified wants to post here, we can talk about perhaps quoting for the work.

Thank you

That's the problem with cheap prices as Geordie said it is ruining it for everyone.
The op said it takes him near as damn it a full day to complete the test for £110.00 now if you break that down it is scary;
Diesel
road tax, test, insurance, servicing,tyres
work clothes
mft, hand tools, calibration of mft
insurances
eicr software
printer
laptop
ink cartridges
paper
income tax
ni contributions
accountant fees
do I need to carry on, you would be better off at mcdee's with no responsibility .

There comes a point when it's not worth working for the amount of cash you can generate from it. I think I'm cheap but there's a lot of 5WWs round our way so I often tell people that I won't compete on price. I'll tell them what they're going to get for the money and what they'll most likely get from the lowballers then let them make the choice.
You'd be surprised at how many will take your price.

Aye ...... you should NEVER lower your standards or your trousers if you're in Sunderland or thereabouts.

Well if he doesn't bother with the stuff in red, uses red Diesel supplied by a friendly pikey and the only paper he buys is the Sun he could probably survive - just.

It's all about being frugal I suppose. :)

a whole lotta crap being talked on this thread.
er , keep up the good work lol.

rates are dictated by market competion in your area.
anyone thinking differently has a real flimsy grasp of economics.

;-)

Bank??!! ............ Flickin' BANK?????!!!! ... I thought you Scousers kept all yer moolah under the mattress!!

OK .... True story here: I have a Cousin - several really but this one's called Brian - and he's as tight as the proverbial gnat's chuff. He's never had a holiday or been to a cinema except for once when his girlfriend paid the admission on their fist - and last date because such frivolities are a "waste of money". He doesn't trust banks either (sensible lad) so really does (or did) keep his money under his mattress.

Now our Grandma is the Scouser who made a killing during the war flogging dodgy petrol, coal and anything else that came her way and Our Brian was always sucking up to her thinking that there would be something for him in her Will etc. Anyway, she was having a clear-out one day and found a brand new electric blanket still in its box and gave it to Brian to get him off her back for a while.

Brain took it home and put it on his bed and finding it was a double bed size and his bed was a single bed, folded the blanket. Ok .... long story shortened a bit - the whole lot went up in flames - including his money. Oh how we laughed! :)

Hi, thanks for the replies - though it seems to have gone a bit off course somewhere!

The reason I re posted the thread, is because the original was in the DIY forum. I got a pm from an electrician in Glasgow offering for the work. I asked him to reply in the thread and he didn't think he could because access to that thread is limited?

Anyway, still hoping that a Glasgow based electrician may chip in at some point :-)

Thanks

well send him a pm and arrange by pm/email/phone.

I would feel more comfortable if postings were made in public, at least initially.

but perhaps he doesn't want to post his business dealings on open forum.

if he's not a member of that forum then he can't post in it.
