Got a CU to change in a couple of weeks and there is no natural light!

So I'm looking for recommendations for rechargeable work lights ............. preferably from personal experience

Thanks

I got this jobby from Screwfix a couple of months ago.
Diall LED Rechargeable LED Work Light 10W 12 / 240V | Portable Lighting | NoLinkingToThis - https://www.NoLinkingToThis/p/diall-led-rechargeable-led-work-light-10w-12-240v/2587k
So far its been spot on, two brightnesses, pretty fast charging, and on the lower brightness of which is good enough, lasts most of the day.

The dial one is good apart from the attachment which holds it to the base, it has a charge monitor on the side so you don't get plunged into darkness, I have two so if one suddenly goes I have a backup.

What Steve said , a good light for not much money. I also like these for everyday work
LEDlenser E41 LED Headlamp 3 x AAA - https://www.NoLinkingToThis/p/ledlenser-e41-led-headlamp-3-x-aaa/5584p
At that price it's a bargain, and you can have one in your bag, another one in the car/van, and buy the wife and kids one each for their vehicles...and the battery life is surprisingly good. I wouldn't spend £££££s on expensive ones, they simply aren't worth the extra, unless you are working underwater!

I have an old Petzl which has 2 bulbs, zoom function, waterproof...it's heavy, it eats batteries, and is frankly too old technology...but it cost £70! 10 years ago.
Conversely, a good quality torch is essential, and I have a LED Lenser that was ridiculously expensive but is the Rolls Royce as far as I am concerned...unbreakable and very powerful.

I have the same Screwfix one as per above. Over the last year or so it has been replaced twice due to the switch going. The one I have now was fully charged and switched on when it decided to just switch off when I was in a loft (which was nice!). I still have it though and for the price it is good enough.
I also have an Elwis one that Screwfix sell. It is very handy for two reasons; it has a hook which has proved utterly invaluable. And you can hold the button and dim it to the light you need, which if down low means the battery lasts well. I would say the battery is on par with the cheap Diall light.

I use a LED worklight that fits my tool batteries and a head torch, which works great for in cupboards on board swaps.
I would like a decent rechargeable area worklight though.

I've had the Bosch 18v worklight for years that came with my cordless drill, works great but I never use it because it's just too bulky especially with the battery attached.

For everyday use I have a small rechargeable worklight that also has a smaller torch on the end, it's just really convenient. It takes about an hour to charge on any micro USB charger and it runs for about 4 hours. It's very bright for its size, has a good strong magnet in the clip and it was really cheap (equiv of about 4 UK quid).

For bigger jobs where I'm going to be stood in front of a panel for a few hours I have a couple of rechargable floodlights. They're a bit bulkier and less portable but they work well. Also about an hour to charge and they last for about 6 hours. I have a couple of 10watt and a couple of 30watt, they're rediculously bright and you go blind for several minutes if you're stupid enough to look directly into them.

gets a bit hot though.

Defo get one Andy. I rarely ever use my headtorch anymore. For a CU change in an area that would be dark they are invaluable. Still use my lenser hand torch as well. With the Diall one I have stripped it down to the bare unit with just the handle, which means it fits really snugly in my tote.

Generally I think the Diall Elwis and the one like Marvos are a fair bit brighter than the typical Makita/Bosch/etc etc ones..

Never noticed mine getting hot Tel but I'll check next time I use one. Is it the front glass that gets hot on yours or the battery compartment? Mine don't have dual settings or a fancy telescopic stand like yours :(

no.the one i have like your pic is LED AND DON'T GET HOT. THE TRIPOD ONE IS 2 X 500WATT HALOGEN. THAT'S THE HOT ONE.

Yeah, I've still got a halogen type somewhere as well but haven't used it in years. Those things were a fire hazard and I had one explode one time when it got wet....

serves you right for pi$$ing on it to cool it.

Faithfull Magnetic Rechargeable Work Light 10W 800 Lumen FPPSLFF10WR XMS17WLIGHT | eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/132340567277?chn=ps&adgroupid=53506530233&rlsatarget=pla-414296420581&abcId=1133926&adtype=pla&merchantid=7394664&poi=&googleloc=1006567&device=c&campaignid=1058609970&crdt=0
I found this really good so far. It also has a usb port so you could charge your phone from it as well. Also has magnet for those times it is useful. I have tried quite a few LED lights/torches they all seem to be afflicted with flickering and going off for no known reason. This has not done that yet. Two light settings as well. So far so good.

This is the one I got and it has been with me under stairs, in cupboards, under floors and just about everywhere that I needed clean white light.
Brilliant is all I can say.
Oh! And it goes for hours

I have some Vision EHL190's. They are a torch and a lamp, will slide in a pocket, have one very strong bottom magnet, two on the back, two swing-out hooks, angles 180 degrees front to back.

They charge fast and last for hours, tough as hell...i had the original 180's and having used everything out there, including some £350+ Snap-on yokes, these are incredible value for money.

Pity that the queen didn't know that.

Wikipedia ; Windsor Castle fire. During renovation work. Halogen light on tripod left unattended.

The fire began in the Queen's Private Chapel at 11:15 in the morning when a curtain was ignited by a spotlight pressed up against it.

Good ideas all. Thanks.

I've got dewalt products so I'll take a look at their products first.

I have this one DeWalt DCL050-XJ 18V Li-Ion XR LED Work Light - Bare | Torches | NoLinkingToThis - https://www.NoLinkingToThis/p/dewalt-dcl050-xj-18v-li-ion-xr-led-work-light-bare/7730g last for about 3hrs on a 4Ah battery on highest brightness. Handy hook on it as well.

Obviously I'm using one of my batteries

Impressive amount of light ...............
i hate yellow. dewalt and fluke in equal amount. i had a hilmor conduit bender in yellow. soon got it resprayed in red/black. same with a stanley rolling toolbox. came in yellow. next day red/black.

What battery power tools do you use? Most should have very good 14/18v lights.

I have this LED light from Makita and it's first class.
There is a bigger brother to the stick lights from Makita, the DML805, takes the 18v batteries and also has an input for mains or 110v as well - have had the 110v /18v one for about a year and it is superb - more like a floodlight than torch!!

Talking of lights, I see from my inbox today that TLC are promoting the Quinetic switches (I like them) and also show a remote fob due out in April, which will be fun and versatile...however, they also highlight the LED floodlight in various outputs starting from £19.95, and that includes a wireless receiver already built in...yet the receiver itself is £16.95, so that doesn't leave much over for the lamp itself...
however, at that price I'll probably buy one just for research.

Get an 18650 battery rechargeable headlamp off Ebay. Probably £10 and ultra bright if you investigate and select carefully re the LED die they choose. Get one with two cells mounted at the back, and a strap over the top.
Dispose of any supplied 18650 batteries (supplied Ebay ones they will be poor quality and potentially incendiary). - Better to buy the bare torch without cells. Buy known fused-cell reliable 18650 cells. Also get a quality 18650 charger - not the one supplied.
Take care with "branded" knock-offs with lithium batteries, hence I always use Xtar factory shop (which you can google).
Lasts all day, often two days.

mine was off ebay. i use the 18650s and charger that came with it. never a problem, except the charge time is several hours from flat. think it was about as tenner all in. can't see how they make'em for that. similar from screwfix is £51.

With the cheaper Chinese ebay batteries, many are "recycled" from cells taken from old laptops and when they are re assembled, they do not contain any over charging protection.
Add to that the often crude chargers you get in these cheap deals, and there is a danger of the batteries igniting or even exploding due to over heating during charging.

A quick google search will find examples of it happening, but I don't know what the real risk is...

Personally, I would not leave such chargers/batteries charging unattended, especially if it is going to be for any extended time....

gets a bit hot though.
I remember one of them, on site in a commercial kitchen. One idiot knocked it over and it was leaning against the white, pvc lined wall......found it about 2 hours later...all the wall was burnt and warped.

I remember them for a while as an apprentice, along with the festoon lighting, then the boss got a load of 2d tasklights some difference and they’d take a battering and still work, think that’s why he changed, cost him a fortune in lamps lol

The fire began in the Queen's Private Chapel at 11:15 in the morning when a curtain was ignited by a spotlight pressed up against it.

Way back in the late 90's I saw the result of a contractor who was building a combination coldroom/freezer room and left a double halogen floodlight on a tripod inside it with the door closed overnight. He claimed someone plugged it in without him knowing. The coldroom was a write off, all the plastic parts inside like the drain trays and the fan plates melted into a puddle underneath their original location, all wiring and motors were trashed, the styrofoam insulation in the wall and ceiling panels also went molten and ran out in places. It was only chance that it didn't start a fire.

Only ever slightly off topic, but is there a LED replacement bulb for the old 500W Halogen R7s bulbs?

I can see a few which physically fit, but the light output is only equivalent to a 60W bulb where as I was looking for something giving a similar output to the original 500w bulb...

Ignore last post...Just sprung for the Faithfull Rechargeable mentioned earlier in the thread...Will take the fire hazard Halogen to the skip this weekend!
