Hi again chaps,

As I said on another thread, I'm trying to pinpoint a dead short in a lighting circuit (happened 2 minutes after running the heating, so I'm fairly sure it's a cable sitting on a hot pipe).

Getting a continuity reading of about 16 ohms between the line and neutral so now trying to work out how far down the circuit the fault is.

Cable is old imperial and it's slightly smaller than modern 1mm.

1) anyone know what size it's likely to be? I'm not too good with the old money!

2) anyone know where I can find the resistance per metre tables for copper? I've trawled through the BGB and not found them!

Cheers!

16 ohms ... make doubly sure that there is not something still in circuit.

Yeah, I initially thought that, but can't find anything.

Unhelpfully the circuits aren't laid out in a logical way, but I'm fairly sure I've disconnected everything in the house.

so pick what you think is approx middle of circuit and split the in/out. then see which leg the fault is on. then split the faulty leg, and so on till you find the fault.

Thanks for that mate, I'm going to start on that now.

Problem is working out in which order the lights are on the radial! Multiple extensions and spurs of in different places, going to be a long trial and error job!

Cheers for the tips!
