I am About to alter the wiring to my detached garageto incorporate two security lights controlled by an existing 4 zone controller (GJDDygiZone Digital 4 Zone Lighting Controller & Enunciator ) sitedin the house.
The PIR’s present no problem as they can bewired directly back to the controller in the house.
However to turn on the floodlights from thecontroller, I was going to run a 1.00mm T&E from the controller in thehouse to an MK 6720S 20A contactor installed in the consumer unit in the garage(Approx 30m cable length away). So the power to the Security lights will beprovided by the garage consumer unit fed via a 2.5mm T&E and the controlvia the 1mm cable from the security controller. This means there will be 2supplies in the garage consumer unit fed from different circuit breakers in thehouse.
Is this legal to have to separate sourcesof mains in the single consumer unit?
I am also going to control the interior garagelights from the garage door opener via another MK 6720S 20A contactor installedin the consumer unit. No problem so far! This will turn on the garage lightswhen the garage door remote control is operated. I also wanted to turn on the garage security lights if it’s dark when the dooris operated. To achieve this I was going use a Photo cell to activate a anotherMK 6720S 20A contactor installed in the consumer unit in parallel with the contactorcontrolling the security lights referred to above.
So two contactors controlling the samecircuit independently. Is this Legal?
I’m pretty sure this will all work albeit atad expensive but it’s my own house so expense isn’t too much of a consideration.
I served an apprenticeship as anelectrician 45 years ago and have worked in the electronics / computer industryfor 30 years or so but my knowledge of the current regulations is gleaned froman “IEE Electricians guide to the Building Regulations” so any advice would be verywelcome.
