Hello, DIY electrical question here. I have a 100amp breaker panel in my pole barn. I am trying to wire in a system which requires a max 80amp input with max 60amp output with a minimum 4AWG. My question is what gauge wire do I need to run from my panel? And what size breaker do I need? Would I use a 30amp square D or something else?

Any information would be great. Thanks for the help.

First off what their telling you it sounds like is install an 80 amp breaker and run #4 wire to the equipment which coincides with 80 amps. That is a calculated load and their telling you that the FLA or full load amperage is 60 amps which in the real world it will probably pull 30-40 amps. You have a sticker inside you panel cover with what the name brand of the panel is and the types of breaker you can only use. Let’s say GE panel type THQL which has horizontal stabs or type THQP which has vertical stabs
