i have a board which is protecting one side with 100A main switch, and the other side is being protected by 100A double pole rcd.

can i get another 100A rcd and put in as main switch which will cover the side un protected by rcd.[h=1]MEM/EATON 100Amp 2 Pole A100HE 100 Amp 30mA Double RCCB Breaker 100A RCD/RCBO[/h]
making this board 17th compliant then.

there is plenty of spare ways in this board so if i can get another 100A 30mA main switch and then mem mcbs for the new circuits, seems easiest than changing board ... trev

Wont doing this make the new RCD control the existing RCD so a 30mA is in line with another 30mA so no discrimination?

I doubt it'll be easier than changing the board. You'd have to disconnect the circuits for testing anyway, so all you'll be saving is the time to undo the board itself, and screw on the new one.

Fit RCBO's to the unprotected side. As Top Cat says the new RCD will end up covering the whole board, inc second RCD.

There is nothing wrong with this but to be honest change the whole board!

How much are you going to charge for adding a RCD to this board? A fully loaded 10 way only costs £60-£70, this is the cost of a MK RCD before anything!

Again nothing wrong with doing it that way - just remember the sockets will either trip the 1st RCD or the 2nd RCD - no way of telling which it will do first!

Still would not be 17th compliant though.

Dont cut corners - just get yourself a new CU and change the lot.

If your doing it for the customer sell it as:

Same price
Includes a free periodic (EICR)
Includes 6 years work guarantee

well i only need 2 more circuits for new extension, yes trying to save money as i didnt price for removing old cables and tidying up exisiting for new joists . which was a days work with 3pm finish:smile:

another wonder.

if i was to change the board, the tails feeding it are over 3m from supply fuse and is only protected by a switch fuse.

would i be required to rcd the tails aswell..

The tails would only need RCD protection if they are buried less than 50mm in the wall.

No - RCDs are at the origin of the installation - therefore that's the first CU after the meter.

Out of interest is this the same property your doing the fire alarms on?

ok extra fire alarms then because of this lack of earthing - lol

Out of interest what sort of work are you doing on this property? its sounding like a rip out and rebuild??? but not a rewire???

nah, nice new staircase to attic which will be 3 new rooms and small wc.. no need for anymore bonding as all is in place

can you get rcbo's to fit old mem board???? mem mbh140 mcbs fit this board...

at that price new board it is 10way dual rcd board hager. thanks i did see 100A rcbo/rccb isolaters on ebay and was £50 each.. thanks guys

well i dont think i have ever finished a thread /post how it should be done.

i fitted new board for nearly same price as the rccb/rcbo that i needed to convert the mem board.. few heads is better than one so ty for guiding me to the harder option but better solution.

can i get anyone to confirm what test you carry out before you change a cu. ??? as you know im an apprentice but flying/ploughing on
