Hi guys. Heed some advice from those that have had their annual review...

I have my first annual review this week. Have to show one job which is all sorted but what exactly are they looking for on the paperwork side. I have documented info on quarterly meetings. I have documented some non-confirming material info where we had wrong stuff delivered etc. But what else?

Looking at this a year on, it is making me mad, its paperwork for paperworks sake. Non of this is actually helping me run my business. I haven't needed a quality manual for my electrical contracting business i have been running successfully for 6 years!!!

Anyway any help on what they will be looking at would be appreciated.

You have to have a 'document' that meets each of the 18 clauses in Appendix 1 of the MCS 001 document.

mine wanted me to have photos of the brackets on the installation we visited that showed that we'd used 2 roof bolts / screws to bolt the bracket in.

Obviously they'd not bothered to let us know in advance that this would be required....

did you ask him if they need photos of cable runs before they are plastered over for a part P assessment?
If the answer is no, as I suspect it would be, then they can do one!

tbh, it wasn't that hard to get in the end, though why the guy wouldn't just go up the ladder to take a look himself I don't know.

Surely any MCS assessor ought to be capable of going up a class 1 ladder to a 2 storey roof... then again he was a former gas fitter assessing solar PV, so maybe not.

That is totally unreasonable. We have got ours coming up in a few months, and if they start playing those games I will complain in writing to UKAS. Where in writing did it say you need to provide that evidence? I hope you told them where to go! If the governments antics arent enough to put companies out of business, it looks like the MCS audit process will help do a bit more damage just for good measure.

Rant over :hanged:

What a muppet jobs worth. Why would you use one bolt of there are two holes and risk future problems. The job i am showing him is finished so he wont be able to see any mounting at all. On my initial assessment he didn't even go out the back of my house to see if there were any panels on the roof at all!

Just had my first MCS assessment with the NICEIC. Guy told me that that big thing they always ask for is quarterly meeting records as these include the checking of all items in your QMS.

even though mine is a company of one!!
So thats the most important thing, not the quality of the installations the company does?
It's pathetic really!

Lazyness that's why. The installer that fitted mine with HILTI brackets(3 screw holes) only bothered to use one screw because "that's what they always did". I challenged the company who refitted the brackets amongst other things but this took some serious discussion. These non compliances were not minor to me as a consumer. There were other more minor things that were not worth bothering about.

thanks for all the replies. it all went very smoothly, nothing to worry about at all.

Glad it went well for you. Can you share what they looked at etc. it may well help others.
