Hey up,

I've got to fit 2 2x58W fluorescent fittings surface mount no access from above but the fittings have besa mounts on rear. Cable will be in plastic conduit.
Will the besa boxes support the fitting weight?
Do you put 4 boxes on the ceiling then hold the fitting on these using the lids?

Ive never attempted this method before but they seem a bit flimsy with the small screws etc.

Is there a better method?

cheers as always

you will be able to mount those fittings on plastic terminal, ends, tees, throughs or angle boxes which ever suits your needs. The weight on the M4's will not be an issue if you use a washer inside the fitting, your only issue will be the fixings you use for your plastic tube install.

As said, the important thing is the fixing of the boxes to the ceiling, the M4 screws will easily hold the weight of the fitting.
Don't nip the M4s up too tight though with plastic conduit boxes. Sometimes the brass inserts can pop out if tightened too forcefully on cheaper conduit boxes.

excellent thanks guys.

Do you guys run a piece of empty conduit between the 2 boxes to make it neater rather than having a terminal with nothing in it?

Yeah, if a straight run then i would have a through box to end box 600mm apart, for no real reason other than preference i would run the cable through to the end box and so through that piece of conduit.
