Hi All,

I have been asked to take a look this evening at a light fitting which blew its bulb now doesn't work with any new bulbs.

Going to check the obvious first ie: switch, terminations, voltage at fitting etc.. anyone had any experience with this and got any
advice on what else to look out for?

Cheers,

Ant

It depends on what type of fitting it is, it could be 12v with a blown tranny. If you're unsure what a "blown tranny" is just type it into google!

I would check for a live and neutral at the fitting first.

Sometimes if these things are on a dimmer, the lamp especially halogen simulates a fault and can fry the dimmer, so check that, if there is a dimmer take a single gang switch just in case to fit temp

Same if it's a new fangled light that as some sort of electronic gadgetry in it, so take a ceiling rose to fit temp

the why is the ionisation ( or something like ) of the gas inside the lamp becoming super conductive fo a fraqction of a second, drawing a massive fault current. ergo MCB/fuse trips.

Remember it could simply be the new lamps or new bulbs as you put it. Its not the first time i have bought new ones to find them faulty. Ideally you may want to prove them on a circuit that is known to work.
