For those that are interested ammendment 2 got released earlier today..

From a quick glance it looks like we will be installing AFDDs for AC final sockets and final circuits upto 32amps with the exception of some safety circuits/motor controls and lighting circuits.

Not looked to much into it yet but looks like A type Rcds should now be used for general use, the old AC RCDs can only be used where there is no chance of DC or control circuits.

Prosumers seems to be added to Part 8...

I believe that Sparkninja is putting on a webinar tonight for those that are interested.

I’ll watch the Soarky ninja webinar replay tomorrow when there’s no footy on. From the clips you have just mentioned.
Type A RCDs... Good.
AFDDs for probably all ring mains and cooker circuits domestically? Like the RCDs been introduced back in the days ?

Yup I've logged in to the site but can't get it to work. It's just stuck on table of contents. I'll try again later.
Thanks for the heads up.

What a scam opens for public comment 20/9/2020 closes for public comment 21/9/2020

I think that demonstrates the contempt the IET and BSI have for those on the tools

I am hoping those dates are simply a screw-up otherwise they really are taking the...

the comments window is just a chance for the vested interests to change things once they realise how it affects profits and margins for those on the gravy train.
It has very little to do with what is best for the customer or industry. safety is secondary to profits these days.

I am sure it said 11th Dec earlier.

I am sure it said 11th Dec earlier.
So am I, in fact I nearly responded as such, but thought to check first, once I did, I assumed it was merely my senility with the December memories!

It did say the 11th December, its plastered all over the email I received informing me of the amendment earlier.

Has anyone managed to read it without it freezing.

The planned publication date is 21st Feb 2022 so I suspect someone screwed up they years and there ought to be a lot longer both for comments and for internal BSI discussions.

Watching the SparkyNinja webinar and they've just mentioned December too,
Has anyone managed to read it without it freezing.
Nope - watching the SparkyNinja webinar instead.

Didn't they release the last one as a PDF? Anyone who knows anything about websites knows that lots of people all trying to view something NEVER works unless you spend a lot, and that would reduce their profits!

Me too - still have it in fact. Can I just surrepticiously change the front and claim I've bought the new one to the NICEIC assessor? Or have they chosen a different brown?

When I first opened the page I'm sure it flashed up as 21st Oct and when I scrolled back up the page a few minutes later it was 21st Sept

Is there a timeline set down for it yet? I thought i saw somewhere that it is planned to be published in early 2022, in which case I assume that it won't be enacted until something like 1st Jan 2023?

I’ll take a look when it’s set in print , rather than speculating a draft copy, everyone getting their knickers in a twist about something that is not confirmed is pointless :)

Confusing. Another BBB?

It is definitely hard going reading through it and the typeface and the size of the text doesn't help
I think I need an exit strategy from this industry as this is looking like one amendment too far for sensible people
Forcing the installation of AFDD's while the technology is still unproven seems to be a major step backwards to improving safety unless the cost significantly reduces in the next couple of years swapping a CU will be the exception and not the norm as the cost will be prohibitively expensive for some

The OP link has now gone on the BSI site. Is there a new one to find this?

Thanks, but that just says login session has expired. I imagine someone has screwed with the web site and it will be fixed later. This is what the IET site says about the time scales:

Draft for Public Comment: Amendment 2 to BS 7671:2018 (IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition)

The Draft for Public Comment for BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 is available from Monday, 21 September 2020 on the BSI website.

Amendment 2 contains proposed changes throughout BS 7671, including a new Part 8: Functional Requirements.

The DPC runs until 11 December 2020 for you to view the draft and submit your comments via the process outlined on BSI’s website. The JPEL/64 committee with then review all submitted comments, and Amendment 2 is expected to publish in Spring 2022.

It was working last night, but barely - seems like they've taken it offline while they cool the steam powered server down...

The SparkyNinja webinar was worth watching - will be on youtube soon I'm sure. One of the points they made was that only allowing comments or viewing of the DPC this way is likely a breach of various disability leglislation. No doubt they are too worried about protecting their copyright so they can make as much as possible when they finally sell it.

Right I fired some disparaging feedback at BSI and we now have a new link
That link works (at least no '404 page not found') but no sign of how to access any of the documents!

Still, at least it is showing the 11th Dec now.

Based on the other recent DPCs, looks like when it's working there should be a red button that says 'read draft and comment'. Maybe the 4 comments they've had already put them off showing it to anyone else?!

In the meantime, you can comment on the critical "BS ISO 3065 Essential oil of Eucalyptus, Australian type"

Thank God that has finally come up for consultation! I was having sleepless nights wondering if I had missed the chance...

You need to login top right of the web page if you haven't got an account you need to register and then login to access the documents

Logged in correctly but still not getting it - they may be limiting it to x number of logged in users at once.

PDF would have been so much easier....

Logged in and this is what I get

Read draft and comment gives you part one the other parts are accessed with the links above that

I don't see anything like that. Have sent message to BSI about it, will see what comes out of this.

This is what I currently get while logged in - they are clearly still having issues serving the page to people who want to read it... (different number of comments too I notice)

I could see it last night, though it was too slow to actually use, so I gave up

I get the above but trying to view it on a smart device like a tablet is futile it just keeps freezing.

How many of you think the difficulty of log in and not being able to comment is better and less time consuming for those that have to read them all, Oh cynical me.
