Hi Guys, I need to run a cable from my consumer unit in the house out to the garage, there seem to be so many cable options I am unsure which to go for, any advice please? I do plan to use an electrician when it comes to wiring up, I just want to do the grunt work myself.
Also, I will subsequently be running a power supply from the garage to a new log cabin in the garden, same question, what cable shall I route to the consumer unit in the garden building?

Many thanks in advance.

For the cable to the garage, there are lots of factors to consider. For example what loading (e.g. just lights & the odd socket, vs. machine tools & welder), the cable length, the cable routing (e.g. outside, buried, etc).

I would suggest you consult whoever will be connecting the cable, rather than trying to guess.

As to the log cabin cable, the same applies. Plus depending on this cabin use, you might want to consider whether it has it's own direct supply, rather than via a garage distribution board.

Many thanks, good advice, I will get the electrician to look at the job and advise accordingly.
