Good afternoon dear forum members,

I wanted to find out if I am eligible to apply for a ECS card in order to increase my chance of finding an opportunity to work as an apprentice, electricians mate or improver. I am thinking of getting my own liability insurance as I heard it helps when looking to land a job as an apprentice.
I am enrolled in a full scope electrician course. So far I have achieved 2 different city and guilds electrical qualification. I am hoping this will help me getting an ECS card. Any advice either negative or positive is more than welcome. Thanks a lot for your time.

You don't need public liability insurance if you are looking for employment. You would be working under your employer's insurance.

You can apply for an ECS card at any time on your journey to being an electrician. The health and safety part of it can help gain the ability to work on sites. You may just be able to do a CSCS card application if that is all you need it for though.
ECS card information including required qualifications is here...... Electrotechnical Certification Scheme ECS | Prove Your Worth With The ECS Card - http://www.ecscard.org.uk/

Cheers for the information and advice. I am definitely going to apply for it later today and I'm going for the labourer eps card. I think that would be the best option to start with. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for that Andy.

Hi and welcome
The ECS card is more relevant if you are looking at working onsite as an electricians m8 and will be more appealing to electricians.
The health and safety test although its easy is more electrical based i.e safe isolation e.t.c than the cscs broom sweepers card.
Hope thats of some help the above link will give you all the info you require.

You can get the trainee one I think that if you pass NVQ leval 3 you don't need to do H & S test to apply for your first gold card as its within the NVQ

Thanks a lot for your advice and info. @uksrevivor and @anthonybragg
Its a lot clearer now, i couldn't find the exact qualifications i have on the ECS website when applying so i got in contact with them and i was advised to send copies of my qualifications so they could tell me which ECS card i should apply for. However i haven't heard anything from them yet. Im just going to apply for the ECS card and see how that goes. Thanks fellow members.
