Hi all this is not my usual thing but, I had a look at a a jewelery display for a shop it has three 12V bulbs and a 230V rotary motor for the display, it is now on its 3rd lighting transformer and now it will only light 2 bulbs if three are fitted they go on and off about every 10 seconds, the transformer has three outputs, also there is a capacitor coupling the motor and tranny circuits is it possible this is at fault, what are the specs I should look for (output etc) when ordering a new transformer as I just copied what was fitted, I have a feeling that the bulbs fitted are of the wrong wattage as they have been replaced by the shop owner

has he fitted halogens in place of LEDs?

Sounds like the wrong size lamps have been put in. Try putting 3 x 20w in as you might have a 60VA transformer.

I'd be definitely binning the transformer and re-wiring the lights with GU10 holders and using 230V LED lamps.

check the lights first, we had some mr16 spots before that are impossible tp convert to gu10

the mr16 plug is part of the metal spotlight, so better to swap holders.

Are we sure it is MR16s? A lot of display cabinet lamps are those godawful capsule lamp jobbies.

I did make an enormous assumption (asking for trouble I know!), but going on Pict's response, it seems I got lucky!
