Just wanted to check what others understanding / experiences are with extending an existing system: Customer has a 3kW system on the old 43p and wants to add another 4kW to it (DNO all sorted). Am I correct in saying that the existing system stays on the original 43p tariff and the extended part gets todays 4kW tariff (14.9) or does the extended 4kW get the 4-10kW tariff because the installation exceeds 4kW in total?

Thanks.

The latter. The extension will be paid the tariff for a 7kW system. Make sure the customer has an EPC of 'D' or better dated before you do the install.

As TedM says extension is based on the total installation size. If you use the one generation meter, generation is calculated by the electricity company based on percentage of the install for the previous rate for the existing install and then the new rate for the new install.

Re: TedM,
If you get an EPC after the system is loged on the MCS database and the certificate issued the energy company will not pay the full rate and will pay only 6.85p. This is specific to extensions, EPC must be produced and dated before MCS certificate is issued. I would suggest EPC produced for all installs before registration and certification on MCS database, to be safe.

EPC dated ON or before. - so the same day is acceptable, if the extension is needed to get the 'D' rating them commission the system the same day as the revised / new epc is issued. - Solar PV doesn't have to be installed or commissioned to MCS standards to count for the EPC :)
