Discuss Final Ring Test during EICR in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

As has been stated it isn't necessary to do a complete set of tests on an unmodified ring final circuit. End-to-end should be adequate if this doesn't bring up any problems (perhaps at a socket outlet rather than dis board - controversial I know but much handier). Unnecessary dismantling is as likely to introduce faults as find them.

Interesting little thread this, all of the answeres are spot and, but amazingly there are differences to them, just shows you in this trade.

I'm guessing in the UK that 80% of socket circuits are ring finals, and I have often wonder why we still persist in them. They were designed and really inclusively developed for the UK. After the war shortage of conductor material was the mother of invention.

But now loads have altered, we rarely use heaters plugged into a socket now with central heating, and apart from a kettle and an iron there is very few heavy loads that isn't on a dedicated circuit as per appendix 15.

I'm amazed that there is not more use of a 2.5mm 20amp radial circuit taught in the UK. Ease on installation, and ease of testing must be worth the thought alone.

I'm not decrying the ring final/main, often there are good design reasons for it, external lighting in car parks springs to mind. But for BS 1363 sockets, is it out dated?
