Hi all

Anyone in the Hull area might be interested in a free 2394/2395 course! I phoned Hull Collage on Thursday to speak about my apprentice and while I was on the phone they told me about funding etc. It's for firms with less than 250 employees, already passed the number on to my mate and he's signed up too. I was looking to do them anyway as my 2391 is 15 years old! Only thing is its night classes Where my preference is block courses, saved me £900.00 though. Happy days

you can refresh by opening GN3 and having a gander through the BGB. elctric's the same as it was 15 years ago, 60 years ago. practical experience using the tools should negate any need for refreshing, unless you got altzeimers, in which case you'll probably forget where the course is held.

Point taken but very few large contractors test there own jobs most sub testing out , so approved spark cards in working for large contractor may very well not have picked MFT up since taking his exam.

Never taken any C&G inspection and testing qualification courses (probably because there weren't any!!), only those set by the company i trained with, Which were officially verified and issued by an official recognised body, that i can't for the life of me remember the name of. Those courses covered far more than what's contained in 2391, or it's replacement, so why for arguments sake, would i want to take the C&G course!!

What???? Absolute Rubbish!! Where do you get you're information from Mr & Mrs Hearsay??

Well I have to take an NVQ , past part 1 and 2 in 1986 full appentaship

didnt receive a apprentice certificate at the end or a deeds.

spoke to many sparks that were in the same year as me, never had a appentice cert either .

None of us can get a gold card so have to do a NVQ

Your C&G 2391 is probably worth more than the newer and easier to pass C&G 2394/95.

You know I love ya Eng but this isn't entirely accurate. The 2394/95 is harder to pass than the 2391, not much harder, but harder none the less! Not entirely because of content, but because for some reason whoever wrote the questions for the 2391 has obviously retired and the new kid who writes the questions has no grasp at all of the english language. The questions are harder on the 2395 written and I've done both so I speak from experience. As well as two practicals (testing, then inspection and coding [two differant boards]), three if you count the fault finding section as well, there's also an online for the new 2395 which if I'm right about 60-70% fail first time. The 2394 also has two practials (visual faults and IV), and a written, the written being easier than the 2395.

If you don't believe me PM me as I have three sets of 2395 papers and a load more sets of 2391 papers, you're more than welcome to compare to see if you concur!

I'm by no means trying to undermine the 2391, but the layout of the new qualification, the extra practical sections, the additional online and the poorly worded questions I believe all combine to make the new one slightly harder than the old. I believe the average pass rate is slightly lower than that of the 2391 also.

That said, neither the 2391 or the 2394/95 are anywhere near as hard as they should be IMHO!

Thats utter rubbish, C&G have deemed its changed!

They have had to bring out more exams and split old exams into two because someone has discovered something new with electrickery that wasnt there before! Im now waiting for someone to realise we need a 4th wire in basic circuits to account for this new found electrickery theory.

If you havent done the new 2365 or the 2394/2395 then I suggest you enrol straight away so you can discover what you dont know about this new electrickery change (and of course provide some much needed funds into the C&G coffers!)

All your previous electrical work may need re-visiting to ensure it conforms to the latest electrickery theory ...... ensure you're not caught short in your profession young man (or in your case I guess old geazer!)

p.s. Just thought Id quickly add a disclaimer before the "no-win-no-fee" brigade come chasing me ........ The previous post was written in light banter and bears no slight on the professional conduct of the C&G in improving electrical standards or on the capability of 'electricians' not trained to the latest exacting professional standards in line with recent developments in electricity.

Ps using it as a refresher, if its free and you have the spare time won't hurt. But not needed to replace 2391. I won't ever be updating mine. It was hard enough!. Once you've got that certificate, its like a driving licence. Its yours (in fact better because it won't be taken off you if you get bladdered and 'drive', or get really old, you still have it)
