Hi all

Recently I moved a grid switch fron inside a cupboard to the outside of it, basically we just extended the existing wiring ( via a new adaptable box with klippon terminals etc) to the new grid switch.
The old switch grid had neons that worked fine, since we have moved the switch the neon no longer work properly.
Both old and new Grid are MK.
We have checked all connection and have found nothing wrong.
we have also tried swapping neons and replacing the new ones.

Also does anyone know of any grid neons that will work if there is no neutral connection available?

Welcome to the forum.

Are you an electrician?

If you're asking about driving neons without a neutral, how were the previous ones connected and why can't you use the same arrangement?

I'd guess from the info you've given that the neons were originally incorrectly connected. If there's no neutral at the switch then you can't connect the neons to operate with the lights without causing an unnecessary safety hazard. If the neons are supposed to come on when the lights are switched off then you would connect them directly across the switch itself. This also might be illegal though (I'm not familiar with the UK regs) because it means the lamp holder will still have some current flowing through it even when the switch is in the off position. Connecting this way could also cause LED and CFL lamps to flicker when off.

Were the neons used to identify where the switch was in a dark cupboard and were they lit when the light was off?

And are you now trying to use them to show the light has been left on in the cupboard?

Sounds like a tailored question old switches no neon, new switches have one ..... DIY empire wonders how to make them work without Neutral .....?

In answer to my assumptions .... read above get an electrician in and dont bodge it!
