just done a klitchen re-wire, no heat detector on the plans, customer has never specified one and i haven't put one in (first fix, getting boarded next week) but now all of a sudden i have a funny feeling that there is some sort of regulation saying that i have to put one in.

so can someone please put my mind at rest thanks

thanks. it's just that i know for a fact the builder will say something along the lines of "your supposed to put mains smoke and heat detectors in, it's the regs blah blah blah!"
and recently architects have specced some on kitcen/diner knock thorough that i have been doing, and i have no idea why

You are there to fit what is contracted for you to fit
Whether labc or architects, customers or builders specify items later is not your problem, ditto to whether they are required or not

as des says , the homeowner is responsible for building regs compliance of their own property , not the spark.
;-)
anyway , are there mains powered & interlinked smokes already in the house ?
if not , your stand alone heat detector isnt going to achieve much to be honest.

only for the structural assessments of removing a load bearing wall and the i beam calcs.
if the kitchen is in an existing part of the house then no other involvement with any other work.
youre a worryier exarmy lol.

it's a kitchen/diner knock through, so steel beams hae been put in to take the wall above. would BC get involoved for that?

They would normally come out just to check the RSJ. Do quite a few like this and never been picked up on it yet. Only time when I put one in a kitchen when not specified was when the property had an interlinked system already in place and an extra 3rd floor loft conversion.

Wouldnt worry mate. Maybe suggest as an option to the customer.

i like to know what i'm talking about though, it's better to find out on here than to say "ummmm" when questions are put to me if you know what i mean
