Hello

A little help here would be appreciated.

I often use a 230/110VAC 3kW isolation transformer for review testing computer power supplies on 110VAC at home. My problem is that every once in a while I plug the transformer in and the ring main 30A RCD trips out. It's not every time so I presume it's happens when I plug in and the AC is at or approaching its peak. My question is can I replace the 30A breaker with a fusible wire link type cartridge (is this against the regs?) or are there less sensitive RCDs available that will solve my problem. The consumer unit is rather dated, I think it's a Wylex NN (?) with NB30 30A Type 2 breakers on the ring main.

Cheers

Paul

I think the problem is caused by the inrush current to the transformer, Updating your C.U. won't overcome this, invest in soft star tranny prehaps

Is replacing the 30A breaker with 30A fuse wire acceptable these days? A soft start transformer sounds expensive!

Can the soft start circuit be built. Any info anywhere?

Cheers

Paul
