Evening all... just been going through JIB card renewal form. Has anyone had any experience with it?

The hitch is where it asks for Health and Safety awareness qualification, I had an exemption first time I had a card through completing my AM2 and apprenticeship, then I don't know what happened with the other 2 cards and now it is asking me for documentation of a health and safety qualification.

I rang their 'help'line which in total took 20 minutes and first spoke to their health and safety qualification provider, they want £48 to do the exam which I have to travel to. Just wondered if anyone else had had the same thing and there was an easier solution..many thanks

The health and safety exam needs periodic refreshment to maintain a JIB card. It's the health and safety element that industry uses to verify individuals are "good" to be on site, and it is the element common to the CSCS card.

From reports on the forum this year, the service you received is standard at the minute as the office are having trouble distinguishing their posterior regions from their mid-arm ginglymus. It may be a while, even after completion of the H&S exam, before you get your card.
Maybe others on here can give some more helpful ideas of card renewal times.....

Thanks Andy, very diplomatic. I think I'll have to do the exam that they offer, I was hoping for one I could do online at home rather than an hours drive away though.

So they don't want your member ship fee, any more.? If you become a lapsed member that will be a ball ache.

I think they actually want my membership fee and a fee for a health and safety awareness qualification.

Interestingly they never sent me a renewal letter like they previously have. I don't get any impression when I contact them that they have much idea what they are doing...so frustrating.

I too didn't get a renewal letter this time, which I normally do.

Currently waiting just over 6 weeks for renewal and not had the replacement card yet.

As Spinlondon has pointed out in the past - you are not dealing with the JIB you are dealing with ECS which are a whole different bunch. You only have to read similar threads to understand the inefficiency involved whether they are understaffed or not.
My last post on another thread was to get my original card for trainee, put in for it 04/04/16. Numerous phone calls and the last call was a helpful guy who was able to approve and plan to send out within 11 days (did this within 2 mins of answering phone!) Great and I posted about it BUT it still hasn't turned up!
Seems like you have to know their business and badger them through the process.
I'm just glad they don't make fast food!
Ps I still don't have my card! 7 months!

Just checked my last letter re ECS renewal, membership renewal was £24 and I seem to remember the H&S test was £30. And you have to travel to one of their centres, to take the multiple choice exam (qualification last 2 years). As my card expires next year and I'm a sole trader, I don't think my little fat face will be appearing on another JIB card :)

Am a sole trader as well Midwest but I do a bit of subbing on sites and they want a card, doesn't have to be JIB I suppose but I like to have it even though I never use it for anything but showing annualy to the firm I sub to.

AAah! Been trying to contact the JIB for a month now, no response from email, get cut off when in phone queue and their system no longer allows me to log on to do a renewal online.

Good to know I need to concentrate on my private customers as I won't be able to consider subby site work this year, having an expired card and seemingly no way to renew it.

Business planning courtesy of the ECS, where do I pay for the service ?

It is like they are preventing you from doing it.

Just managed to speak to someone at the JIB, that is where the good news ends. Tried to email me so I can reregister even though I don't know how I became unregistered and guess what they are having problems emailing to BT Internet addresses so they couldn't do it. She kept asking for a non BT address so it would work, I don't have one I use the biggest telecoms operator in the country what is the problem. I asked to be sent a paper application and was told it is better to do it online, fine I said let me register again, I can't she said because of my BT address. How I remained calm I will never know, I am now to be sent a paper application, well maybe.
Aaaah!

Can't really blame the JIB/ECS because BT's email system is pants.
You would think that the biggest telecoms operator in the country would have email addresses that worked, but that's just BT for you.

Nowt to do with BT, I have never had this problem I was told in a half hearted manner "it's our server"
