Hi Guys, I`ve got 2 x 3core 6mm SWA cables to run overhead from a Barn to the chimmney of house and the run is 20m.

Never done this before, do you think this can work and how? I`m concerned about the weight

a good catenary should hold it, but it may pull the chimney down in a fair wind.

no chance of running underground?

When you say surveyor this suggests a survey (which I'm assuming would include a risk assessment) has already been done. What was in the survey results?

"SURVEYOR" wrong choice of words, salesman or whatever you want to call it. Lets just say he`s not clued up when it comes to the electrical side of things

With 2 x 20meter lengths of 6mm x 3 core SWA I would get a structural engineer in to sign off a satisfactory spec. There's a very good chance a chimney won't support the load.

Have you ever tried lifting half a coil of 6mm SWA!!! Good luck trying to fix that! As someone has said, i'b be looking at getting something around the base of the stack as least.

I agree, not going ahead with it, its very exposed and a strong wind will put to much load on the chimmney.

Thanks guys

I dread to think where this will end up.
Ross it’s obvious you don’t know what you’re doing, get this wrong and you’ve a house minus it’s chimney to sort out.

Out of interest how do you intend to get the centenary and cables in to place? Hope you’ve got a cherry picker in your van.

Yep cherry picker is nice and snug in van cause I dont fancy using the mobile platform on site and the scafold on the barn end, if the chimmney comes down it wont be a problem, got a mate who`s a brickie`s labourer.

You better hope he knows how to repair roofs too, as there is going to be a gaping hole in it!!! Oh, How about ceiling boards too?? Do you have any idea how much, just the top of a chimney stack weighs?? I don't think you do!!! lol!!!
