I have an old metal service head cutout, I am not sure if it is neutral fuses, or bridged. I have not investigated further due to its age (certainly prewar and the oldest install I have seen(

Will the DNO (west mids ex central networks now WPD), change such a service head, or is such a cutout still acceptable to them?

Hi Jase,

I have a simular sinario, I am gonna fit a new cu for my cousin and when I did all the useuall pre tests I saw that the main incomer was a cast iron box. The seals were missing so I slid off the lid. There was a 100A fuse bolted to the incoming line conductor. I said to my cousin he had to ring DNO to come and sort it. They sent a guy to isolate it and fit a 100A iso switch but when he came he said ne could'nt do it and that he would register it for a new head. Now from what he told my cousin, this would be done for free as it was well past its use by date. This is in west Yorkshire, and i dont know if its the same service as yours but if its out of date, the DNO will normally change it for free.

Hope this helps

Jay.

it would be DNO Dependant IMO they should have a standard upgrading of service heads so that every head is a series 7 By a certain date and every sercive cable is of a decent quality ( After all the installation in property requires testing at regular periods theirs doesnt n there are some scarey service heads and fuses out there along with old bellends that havent the capacity to take loading of new rewired installation

Got a photo of the head in question. Looks brown to me, but it may have been green many many years ago. Does anyone have any experience of these in the (ex)central networks area (midlands).

Would like to get it replaced, and a DP isolator fitted it possible,
