Metallic Conduit Installation

Hi,

Mainly i only do domestic installation, but sometimes i was asked to do small jobs for commercial properties. i noticed that most commercial installations use metallic conduit, is there any regualtions on whether it must use metallic conduit or just depends on electircians judgement?

You should be guided by section 522 of the regulations concerning which type of installation you choose as the designer. You will have to take all the enviromental conditions into account.

Metalic conduit is normally used for mechanical protection, presecence of dampness or high humidity, Impact etc, so as you say it is mostly found in commerical and industrial installations.

Another factor could be the customer, or their designer, many NHS trust insist on metalic conduit for certain applications, and you may find this to be the case in other situations.
