No RCBO's = Unsatisfactory

I've just been to a customer who has had somebody else carry out an EICR and have told them that it can not be passed as satisfactory until they replace a number of MCB's for RCBO's as there is a new law that requires them. This is not just on socket outlets. They have gone all out on cables concealed in walls less that 50mm etc.

Have i missed out on something here or are they just try to have there pants down. An EICR can be passed satisfactory with C3 recomendations for improvement. This was installed in accordance to it regulations at that time and thats what should be taken into consideration by the tester. Sometimes things like this make you question yourself but i think this is BS.

Sounds like the usual scaremongering that does unfortunately go on. Maybe worth a call to the person who carried out the EICR to find out exactly why they have coded it like it is.

Its coded a C3. Which is pretty standard if you ask me. I'd always recomend rcbo's. Especially on socket outlets. I would deem the installation unsafe and unfit for purpose because of it tho. They have put a quote exceeding £5,000.00 to bring it up to current standards and to pass it off.

If its coded C3 then that doesnt make the install unsatisfactory. Only C1 and C2 give it that status.

No, but dont forget the report is the opinion of the person carrying it out. Although sometimes yes you see things that make you wonder why!!!

I think i'll produce them now with a letter quoting a few regs and definitions. I personally prefer to look after my customers rather than fleece them. I always make it clear that they have no obligation to use us for the rectification work should there be any. I find it goes a long way to work with people rather than against them. This company have 40 properties in the U.K. sometimes people should take a step back and look at the bigger picture
