Obvious signs of troubles ahead.....

Went to look at a C/U change yesterday to be confronted with this.

Im not normally one to insist on a EICR before changing a C/U I usually just do the tests before removing the old one.
However in this case I can see troubles ahead....

Clearly there has been tripping issues with the upfront RCD, so the obvious solution was to bypass it.

Seems the only visible earthing is the gas pipe, makes it even more worrying...
(there is a DNO tail coming off the incoming sheath (TNS) but not connected to anything. And no obvious earth spike.

The light blue insulating tape makes me suspect a builder has been in to play, as builders always seem to use light blue insulating tape for some reason?...

I wouldn't normally insist either bit I think your right in this case to do so you could run Into a lot of bother and best to let them know up front so you don't get the usual 'but it's worked fine this way for years response

Yes - deffo insist on a partial EICR or walk

As for the blue tape - whats the issue with this ......... except its all a bit rough

Being objective I would say the NC sticker predates the RCD

Probably, is the previous inspection date 1985? The photo is not clear.
I hope that other t+e wasn't wired into the RCD at some point!
The disconnected TNS earth may also be to try to stop the tripping.

Brown = Danger.
Blue = Safer... ?

Definitely requires a test to see what is going on before a change IMHO....
