Hello,
I am replacing my old storage heaters (single supply). I have two choices either buy replacement ones which require only off-peak or buy the more modern type which require peak and off-peak supplies.

I am wondering if an electrician will be able to create the new peak supply by running a cable from the nearby 13amp wall socket or whether he'll have to run a cable all the way back to the Consumer Unit.

If the latter I will try to source an old style heater as we dont want all that upheaval.

Thanks for your advice

Cheers

Paul

might be possible to modify the off peak supply by using a dual tariff meter and supplying the heaters from the main CU.

Hia mate if your going to use the new dual tariff storage heaters High Heat Retention storage heater then all you need to do is use the existing off peak supply and then also a permanent power supply from existing supply covered by 13A sw fused spur connection from local power supply I.e socket nearby doesn’t have to be from C/U. I’ve installed loads of these new HHR storage heaters the 2 main brands being Dimplex and Elnur let me know if you get any problems the dimplex are straightforward the Elnur require a bit more attention ?‍♂️ Let me know either way ?

Thanks Grant - really appreciate you replying and letting me know re that.

All the best

What is the wattage of the peak heating?

If it’s over 2kw definately a new dedicated power supply. Less than 2kw you may get away with a fused switch unit dependant on current load on circuit you wish to fuse from.

Thanks Pete,

I was thinking about this heater: Dimplex xle125 slimline storage heater

From what I can see it uses the 24-hour supply for the fan and timer. Doesn't seem to have a supplementary heater that uses the peak supply the way the Quantum does.

Just looked. According to specs the on peak load is under 1000W. So a fused spur from and existing circuit should be fine.

The installation instructions didn’t specify a dedicated circuit either.
