Hi all I just recently purchased a phase rotation tester but unbeknown to me this product came from china, (when I purchased this unit it was a third of the price that is from other sellers) I would like to use this product but for obvious reasons I am unwilling to try it out can can anyone recommend a safe way to test this meter.

a lot of the proprietory gear is now made in china. case of bite the bullet and try it. if in doubt, wear insulated gloves the first time.

If it's being sold in the UK, then the unit has met minimum safety standards and will have the appropriate CE marking, etc!! It's highly unlikely that an importer will risk bringing unsafe electrical test equipment into the UK. As a side point, many of the best known industries are now manufacturing in China, so don't make the common mistake of tarring everything out of China as being crap!!

If you look at any of your gear I will be very surprised if the vast majority is not made in China.

I'ts cheaper because the production costs are lower. Fake gear is the worry.

Sorry E54 meant to quote the OP.:)

For the life of me, i can't understand why the OP is reluctant to test/try-out the rotation meter he's purchased. That would be the very first thing i'd be doing, be it made in China or anywhere else!! Does he Really think it's going to go Bang?? lol!!

In some respects China gets a bad rap, in other respects Chinese manufacturing is it's own worst enemy. The chinese manufacture some of the best quality equipment on the planet (albeit often under license to companies in other countries) but they also manufacture some of the worst.

Even high-end equipment that's made in the UK or Germany or many other countries is usually only assembled in those countries, the components will often be Chinese.

As far as being worried about using your rotation tester I'd just get on with it, it's not exactly a complicated device so there's not much to go wrong. Just put on your Ray Bans first, or even better if you have an apprentice or mate, give it to him to use and tell him it's an aptitude test ;)
