Hi all, new to this forum so forgive me if I break any rules/etiquette. :D

I had a family member install a circuit for some wall lights a couple of months ago. The lights just need connecting up and I don't want to bother him again to do that as he works away so doesn't get much time off.

Okay so one wall light is straight forward- one twin and earth cable, so I'm fine connecting that up.
The other lamp has two T&E cables- one for the feed and one from the switch? He's also run a new cable to the switch that's not yet connected. So my question is, on the lamp fitting with two cables, can I just connect all the neutrals to neutral on the lamp and all the lives to live on the lamp, or is one of them a switched live?

Am I also right in thinking that at the switch end, live (brown) goes to common, and neutral (blue) goes to L1 / L2 with some brown/red tape or sleeving to indicate switched live?

Any help very much appreciated.
Thank you, Beeg.

it may be that the 2 cables are a switch feed and a link out to the other light. without seeing it and getting a meter on it, impossible to say. post you approx. location: one of us may be close to you and be able to assist.

Thanks Telectrix, I'll get a multimeter and have a look later. What you said would make sense, as all the cables are exposed but are not live even with the lighting circuit live. So basically the supply would come from the main ceiling rose and via the light switch and then to the wall lights?

could be. you need to meter the cables ( short one end and meter for continuity) then once identified. you'll know how it's wired.
