would say £6.95 an hour then a bonus.....
the way it worked in one place I was working at years ago was, they paid the lad a basic rate (like the one I mentioned, say £6.95 an hour) then they paid him £50 (will say "performance bonus" on his wage slip)extra once every 4 weeks to help him with tool buying (as well as supplying some for him) and when they got him doing PAT testing, they put a little bit onto the rate, something like £7.30 an hour when PAT testing or stripping out for a refurbishment job to make them feel appreciated and they set aside a small amount each week into a pot, after about 18 months of good work from him, they bought him his first cheap car at the Auctions which set him up and he was well chuffed....
you are allowed to buy something worth £50.00 (last time I checked) for each employee for Christmas every year as well for a company Christmas present and this can be written off against the tax bill, in addition to any private gifts you might decide to give if the workers are good for your company/business...
