Hi all,
nylon switch chord broke, but the switch is still working.

I'd really like to just replace the nylon chord but it's fairly inaccessible.

Could some kind person tell me if this is possible without buying a new switch ?

Please see pic.

Many thanks

There’s more problems with that than just a broken string.

A deeper pattress box, and the switch screwed fully up.

How did the string get broken? This 'switch' should only be used by someone opening up the shower to repair or replace it.
If the pic is with the broken string, it doesn't need replacing. There's plenty left for its intended use.

I unscrewed the box to take a look. All the wiring seems to fit in the box but a bit more space is always welcome.

It just rotted over the years. The damp atmosphere didn't help. Yes I can still just about reach it, but I would prefer to replace it if possible.

You don't need to reach it. It's an isolator, and should be left permanently on, except when working on the shower.

Thanks I didn't know. I always turned the isolator off after using the shower. I thought this was the 'safe' thing to do. So I will turn on the shower isolator and leave it on. Thank you.

Technically, it is an isolator… but there’s no harm turning it on and off when needed…. Apart from constant use wearing out the switch prematurely.

It is an isolator but lots of people are encouraged to remove anything from the supply that has a neon or LED standby light to save on energy
The switch can wear out from constant use but as long as it's used off load, it should last a long time

Thanks all. Yes, I have tied the broken bit back on to remaining stub. It's surprising that a nylon chord is not easily replacable.

That's why you should never fit an isolator that has a neon indicator!

I thought with older pull cords there was a short piece down to a white plastic connection. The string could be replaced from there.
