Panasonic don't do the 87 cm wide panels anymore so apart from Hyundai and Canadian solar who do 98 cm wide panels there aren't any 250 W panels less than a metre wide AFAIK

Most 250W panels come in under a metre wide in my experience. Usually in the 982mm to 992mm range. Can only think of Jetion & HJ that are wider, 'cos they're a bit shorter than the usual suspects.

Agree with Julian, most current 250W panels are less than 1m - Renusola, LG, Yingli, Sanyo/Panasonic HIT, Phonosolar Diamond, Canadian Solar ELPS, Suntech STP, Hyundai HiS, REC, ET-Solar etc. Sunpower ET20 modules are over 1m wide as they are 96cell modules.

Agree with above. The only available options for any significant size saving per kW are Panasonic or Sunpower. Unfortunately you can't buy Sunpower wholesale, so you are limited to Panasonic!
There are no mid range panels in this area, as both of the above are significantly more efficient than mid range panels. That efficiency comes at a price, with both manufacturers commanding prices twice that of mid range Chinese panels.

As an aside, most modern c-Si panels use 156mm cells (6") and consist of 10 columns of 6 rows. 6 lots of 156 plus a bit for frames and cell gaps (if any) and you get roughly 990mm.

Most junction boxes have 4 channels with 3 bypass diodes bridging the channels (or 3 lots of 2 diodes in parallel) Each channel typically consists of 20 cells in series - 3 diodes, 1 for each sub-string of panels. This is why a vertical shading "issue" can sometimes have less impact on a string where panels are in portrait, and a horizontal shading issue can sometimes have less impact on a string where panels are in landscape.

Anyway, apologies, back to the thread...
