we have been doing maintanance and accassional installation work for a local housing society for quite a while and have never done a certificate for a accessory like for like change ,ie socket light switch etc .however the association are saying that unless evidence can be submitted to say the contray they want a certificate.this will mean cost implications to us as we are screwed down to the bone as it is.i had a chat about this a few years ago to an niceic inspector and the general assumption was although perhaps a zs test and rcd test if applicable were in order there was not a need to certificate what was a maintance change.i'm wondering if anybody nows where i can find further clarification of this? thanks in advance

You should be covering these changes with a minor works cert mate. If nothing else it keeps your butt covered should anything go wrong on the installation at a later date. Prove what you have done and it was safe when you left the job.

profit on schedule rates is negligable believe me, time lost doing certificates for a socket for example is the difference between breaking even and making a loss over a days work.

True, but if you're doing the tests anyway 10 minutes writing up a MWC isn't going to cripple you surely. Plus as I said earlier, If anything goes wrong at a later date your butt is covered.
Sorry if you think I'm nitpicking here

trev you are not nitpicking but taking into consideration travelling between jobs we dont get 10mins to do the work i kid you not

I know your situation mate I've been there but if it's the only way you're going to get paid then you could always explain it to them and say Ok a cert is going to cost you £X more per job. Not an ideal response I know but you never know it might work

your not changing the circuit charicteristics so no cert is required between you and i and rest of us, but if they want one they should pay for 1 as you have to have test sheets , time to do them and testing equipment to calabrate....
