filling these on line niceic certs in and req 411.3.3 states the need for rcd protection on all socket outlets not exceeding 20a unless a risk assesment is attached ok get that think im having a moment here but why is it ok then to not provide rcd protection on say a 32a say indoor socket

thats what im saying hellmooth unless im reading req wrong lol so you can have a indoor sockets on a 32a mcb with no rcd protection but if its 20a and less you need rcd protection my question is why

For some reason I read it as being the other way round lol, had to re read it there about 10 times before it sunk in!

Good question anyway, look forward to the responses!

Isnt it referring to the rating of the socket not the MCB that protects it?

The regulation refers to all socket outlets of all standards rated up to 20A. A BS1363 double socket is required to be rated at 20A only so this would be included in the regulation.

If the sockets are rated at 20a why have them on a 32a sockets must be rated more as they have the potential to take two 13a plugs

Clearly the regulation is saying that ALL domestic socket outlets need RCD protection unless you're have a really really good reason not to and are prepared to provide a risk assessment backing it up.

I would never have thought it was the case, it has been discussed on here though so was something new to me!
