Hello,

Thought i'd join the forum, as i've been thinking about a career change for sometime now. I started off along time ago doing an OND in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, but ended up in Computers.

I've been interested in becoming a fully qualified electrician, and looking into what courses, and qualifications that are required.

I had a call yesterday from OLCI after I requested some details from them, from what started as a friendly chat from the sales person to becoming a very push little bugger !!

Currently they where offering a full course which was the C&G 2330, and the NQL Level 3 (2356) which is soon to be 2357 for £5858, plus if i payed up front they would include the 17th Edition and Sol PV course as well.

I told the sales person, i'd think about it and i may call be later.

All sounded nice, but something in the back of my mind says this seems a bit steep to me, so i started to do some checking, and it seems OLCI as not so well thought of on various formus.

I've just recieved another call from OLCI, say that they didn't hear back from me and what did i think of the course and offer.

I replied I'll leave it at the moment, as i think the price is a bit on the steep side. I was at this point the sale person started to get a bit pushy, and insist they where the only people to providethe training course to get C&G at level 2 and 3, which i said i'm sure thats not the case.

I repeated that i thought i was too pricey, but they said not. I said i'll leave it. This is where i could feel the sale person starting to a bit shity for a wont of a better word.

I ended the call at this point, it seems if there going to get a sniff at your money there happy, but you start to question them and ask questions back they start to get shity with you. I'm sorry but parting with that kind of cash, i would certainly expect a better level of service.

So my rant is over !! lol

Can anyone out there suggest where the best place to go is ? I'm based up in the Rotherham area, but am willing to look out of that area to get the best start in a new career.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Mark

Hi mark1970 and welcome to electriciansforums.net!

Hi mark, welcome to the forums. Ive been with olci for a year or so now doing my 2330. nearly through my level 2 and pleased i went with them. had a couple of different guys running my practicals both good blokes and learned a lot from them. looked at a few different places before i started but thje training centres wernt really up to scratch at the other places i went to. had a tour of the olci centre and signed up there and then. dont think its bad value most will charge that sort of amount. you could always go to college instead – you should be qualified by 2020! down in london so fdont know of anywhere else round there.

I met with quite a few training companies before I started my course, and olci were the most professional id say - didnt feel pressured as you said. Maybe you just caught him on an off day!

You need to be careful what you believe with these things sometimes – wouldn’t be surpised if there are other companies posting “complaints” on here just to try and get the business going there way instead.
