Hi,
I need to replace a cable that is used at a scaffold yard to test the hoists. They currently have a 6mm cable installed but they say that when they try to test their biggest hoists the cable doesn't have the capacity and the hoists wont function properly. The information i have about the largest hoist is:
3ph
400/50hz
63/32A (TBC) female socket (5pin red)
2 x 8kw motors
180A startup
38A running.
what i need to know is do I need to size the cable to carry the whole 180A or do i need to size the cable for the running load of 38A and have installed a D type breaker for the spike in current at startup.
Having looked in BS7671 I can see that 6mm is adequatley big enough for the 38A running load.?
Any help with this question woould be greatly appreciated,
Ta.
