To my mind, using the g/y in a flex as a live conductor is abhorent. I carry 5 core flex for items such as cylinder stats, timers etc. No excuse not to - it's readily available and not overly expensive.
I come across g/y in flex used as live all the time, so know to watch out for it, but I think it should be disallowed by regs.

Totally agree....although the OP's question concerned coding on a PIR,for which the only concern is regulations, not personal opinion.

I will now put my hands up to using a G/Y in a flex as a live last week.....the only time in 30+ years....(hangs head in shame)
The scenario was a "oh...while you are here, could you fit a wireless stat to my heating,it's just on TRV's at the moment".
Well as it happened I had a stat on the van,but only 4c flex. Investigation showed a connection box in the airing cupboard, and the reciever could mount directly underneath....so about a foot of flex tops. A trip to the wholesaler would have wasted best part of an hour,so I used the 4c and sleeved the G/Y. Still having nightmares about it now.

You will get over it in time, if the truth was known, I am sure that most Electricians on this forum would admit to small bodges of this nature, and that includes members of the Supersparks Pedantic PC club.

Sorry, was this aimed at me? As I said I have found it and not changed it, but I have NEVER installed it!

No wasn't aimed at anyone except those who install it and use such practice, i usually quote ppl or name them when direct commenting.

Earthing is so yesterday anyway. I'm tight so i would not want to waste any volts going to earth.
Can you bottle a fault ?

Spookily I did a job today.....changed a faulty bathroom fan and the switched live was the CPC on a 3 core flex......so wrong, unmarked, and NO isolator switch.....
