Did anyone struggle to complete there nvq level 3 because the company they work for doesnt provide the right kind of work ? Or is this corse simple and is there anything that was difficult in your experience?

This course is not simple to complete, it will cover a wide range of disciplines from basic switches to motors and control gear, on top of that you will need to show a understanding of different cable and containment types with evidence that you know how to install these as per manufacturers spec and current regulations,

Done properly the NVQ will show you have a wide range of knowledge from basic design and install to complex fault finding

Here is the range of work required for the NVQ.
You'll need to take photos of the work with you in them & do write-ups. You'll also have site visits & question/answer sessions.

I realised about 2 years into my Apprenticeship the company I started out with wasn’t doing the right sort of work to get me through. Was falling behind at college and not understanding practical assessments compared to the others in the class.
got another job luckily and gained more experience which got me through my apprenticeship. You need an all round understanding, or unfortunately you will struggle in my opinion.

When I did mine I worked for a what was a 1 man band, so was just the two of us, doing mostly domestic, we had to install tray and other things we wouldnt normally just to get photos for the NVQ folder.

Do you have a workshop or anything within the company you could do some of the things your missing?

Completing the portfolio for all the units is a pain in the butt. I don't think anyone found it plain sailing. To get the work such as metal conduit you need to go outside your normal work. You can set up a rig, or conduit work at home and take photos. Rewire your boiler controller (if you can!) take pics. Try to do a bit of work for family/friends get customer testimony. Yeh right pain in the butt make no mistake. Oh and don't forget you will find through the modules many many repeats. So you just refer back to the first instance you answered or demonstrated things esp. safe isolation. You don't need to write a book on each aspect.
