Dimming LED's

Hi is it possible to dim led gu10's? i have a job to replace a normal switch with a dimmer, but not sure if her lights are dimable.

you need to check if the LEDs are dimmable, and if so, get a dimmer suitable for LEDs.

ok how do i tell if they are dimmable, do the say dimmable on them or is it a specific type of lamp?

Get the lamp number and look it up

Whichever LED bulbs you have ring the tech helpline of the company to see what dimmers they recommend as not all work.

They also work out expensive Kosnic were around the £24 mark when I priced a job up recently for a 4 watt LED.

I can't see her doing expensive she was quoting me prices out of the s/fix catalogue. I will have a look at them when I go back.

Don't try and dim ordinary leds they will fail or even burn up. Phillips do dimable GU10s (very expensive quoted £31 from Neweys). Giant led store online do some for about £16 depending how many you get. Halers do dimable downlighters , our company is using these atm but if you use an electronic dimmer you will have to fit a load resistor to give enough current to make the switch work.

I've seen the LED's working and you can dim them down to about 30%. The LED's themselves, I would say achieve about 80% of a normal halogen lamp, but a tenth of the power!
