been ask to change a fuseboard. the fuseboard is supplying 5 storage heater circuits each on a 20A breaker. It is on the off peak supply. Plan is to put a 8way 80A 30ma RCD unit. Now is this ok or does the fuseboard have to have a main switch?

Just be prepared for nuisance tripping with 5 NS/Heaters on a single 30ma. Remember they will come in under load, and click out she goes.

No it does'nt have to have a main switch if the RCD is front end, But what is the reasoning for 30ma.

As above, but if thats the road yer goin. Most dual rcd boards are under 50 quid these days fully loaded. That way you have yer mainswitch, and better discrimination. At least you wont lose the lot in the event an rcd tripp. Some heat is better than none in this weather brrrrr.

Given its storage heaters, I think that a RCBO board would be the way to go.....

Spot on, and exactly what I was thinking, but you just know the customer is never gonna go for that :greedy:
